چکیده

The corrosion behaviour of αand β-Ta coatings was compared to that of Cr coatings produced by cylindrical magnetron sputtering as well as electrodeposition. For Ta coatings, the corrosion process was dominated by dissolution of the steel substrate through open pores, however, at the end of 5 days, coating degradation was not observed. In contrast, while open pores were not observed with the Cr coatings, the corrosion resistance decreased as a function of time under acidic conditions, as a result of the protective oxide dissolution. Initially, however, the sputtered Cr coating exhibited improved corrosion resistance over the electrodeposited one, potentially due to the surface structure of the oxide film. Both Cr coatings showed similar transpassive behaviour to that of pure Cr; the current density of the sputtered Cr coating was observed to be greater than that of the electrodeposited one in the transpassive region due to the extensive droplet-like defects. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Thick Sputtered Tantalum Coatings for High-Temperature Energy Conversion Applications

Thick sputtered tantalum (Ta) coatings on Inconel were investigated as a potential replacement for bulk refractory metal substrates used for high-temperature emitters and absorbers in thermophotovoltaic energy conversion applications. In these applications, high-temperature stability and high reflectance of the surface in the infrared wavelength range are critical in order to sustain operationa...

Cell response to a newly developed Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloy and its sputtered nanoscale coating

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The success of titanium implants is due to osseointegration or the direct contact of the implant surface and bone without a fibrous connective tissue interface. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the osteoblast precursor response to titanium - 10 tantalum - 10 niobium (Ti-Ta-Nb) alloy and its sputtered coating. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ti-Ta-Nb coatings were ...

Effect of Substrate Bias Voltage and Ti Doping on the Tribological Properties of DC Magnetron Sputtered MoSx Coatings‌

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is one of the most widely used solid lubricants. In this work, composite MoSx/Ti coatings were deposited by direct-current magnetron sputter ion plating onto plain carbon steel substrates. The MoSx/Ti ratio in the coatings was controlled by sputtering the composite targets. The composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the coatings were explored using...

Effect of TiO2 nano-particles on corrosion behavior of Co-Cr alloy coatings in simulated body fluid

Co-Cr and Co-Cr/nano-TiO2 coatings were electrodeposited from Cr(III) based baths. The effect of TiO2 nano-particles incorporation on the morphology, structure, crystallite size, and preferred orientation was studied. Corrosion behavior of the composite coating was also investigated by means of polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques in Hanks’ si...

Stable Quasicrystalline Phase in Al-Cu-Fe-Cr Coating Materials

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies have been carried out on magnetron-sputtered coatings in the Al-rich region of the Al-Cu-Fe-Cr quasicrystalline phase field, focusing on the composition that exhibited the best tribological performance among a group of sputtered coatings. The size of the particles in the as-deposited coating is around 10 nm. The TEM experiments on annealed coatings...
